Is Des a (closet) racist in Hollyoaks?

I've noticed that Zak and Des seem to be getting close lately and Des said to Zak that "we need to protect Carmel from his sort", meaning Calvin in tonights First Look Hollyoaks (on E4). Does anyone else reckon he's a redneck?
