Is it okay to give kitty her medication through food?

So i got my 3 month year old kitten from a shelter about a week and a half ago. After taking her to the vet everything came out fine, but the next day they called and said that in her stool sample they found 2 types of parasites. One can be treated with a produce called revolution which looks like a cream and looks easy to do, just gotta put it on her once a month. The other one is a little more difficult and they gave me a syringe and mecidine called Sulfadimet which i'm suppose to give to her orally once a day. I've tried so hard, got her calm and everything, but she just wont take the syringe in her mouth. I've been wrestling with her for a while now. Can I just put the required medication mixed with her food and do it that way? because she is being impossible. Thanks all
