Why are liberals so controlling?

Why do liberals love to control everything the get their hands on? They are always trying to make laws that control every detail in our life. For instance, wearing bike helmets and seat belts. Putting regulations on calorie content in fast food. Why can't they just realize that America is free because its citizens have a choice in many aspects of their life. Back in the good ol' days, you could ride around without a helmet or seatbelt and stuff your face with unhealthy fast food. But it was your choice. If you wanted to be safe, you could choose to wear the helmet or skip the hamburger. Even this recent debate about the soda tax makes my blood boil. One of their points is that if they taxed soda, people would lose weight because they wouldn't drink as much. Who made the government in charge of our weight? I am not fat (and I don't plan to become fat), but I don't want liberals telling me how to live my life.
