Is the only way a word can show up in "Yahoo search history" by someone manually typing it in from my system?

Is the only way a specific word can show up in Yahoo Search History by someone searching for it directly on my computer? Or, is there a way that hijackers/popups/etc can insert a word into my Yahoo Search History? I trying to determine if an unauthorized person has broken into my system.
